South Carolina law states, a student may miss no more than ten days per year. This includes unexcused absences and absences excused by parent notes. Absences after this point, will only be excused with doctor or court notes. Parents or Guardians may document up to ten days of illness in a year; parental notes after this point will only allow students to make up work missed. All other absences due to illness will be unexcused unless there is documentation from a physician or other health care provider. Excused absences include illness of the student, death in the immediate family and religious holidays for which an excuse has been returned within three (3) days of the absence. Absences will be considered unexcused if you fail to meet one of these categories, if your child is under court order or have a doctor's excuse for all absences.
